January 19: ICK and Quiz Prep

Today I am…

• completing the first trial of my Ice Cube Keeper
• preparing for tomorrow's quiz by viewing an interactive slideshow and completing a practice quiz

So that I can…

• test my design of an ICK to see if I understood the concept of heat energy transfer
• successfully take my heat energy quiz tomorrow

I will know I got it when…

• the ice cube is in the keeper!
• I have answered and corrected the practice questions

Class starts with 10 minutes devoted to making sure my ICK is ready to complete the first trial. The ice cube us added to the keeper and a CONTROL ice cube is placed at the front of the room.

You will be using a website that allows you to examine heat flow in virtual containers at different starting temperatures.

• What happens when a flask of hot water is placed inside a beaker of cold water?

• Write a hypothesis in regards to the experiment question.

January 4: Thermal Energy, Temperature, and Heat

BONUS:  There are some specific heat questions at the end of the doc.  These are higher level and not required but I would recommend that students interested in honors science next year try them!

This is a pre-assessment for the first two parts of unit 2: Thermal Energy and Energy Types.  You may not know the answers to the questions and that is expected!  By the end of the unit, we will see significant improvement.
